LibreELEC 9.0.1 (Leia) Update

674

We have introduced LibreElec in a previous article. A new version of LibreELEC 9.0.1 (Leia) was released, and is based on Kodi v18.1. Version 9.0.1 includes many changes. The Kodi v18 introduced new features such as Kodi Retroplayer and DRM support, that with a properly configured add-on allows Kodi to play content from services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Changelog:

  • updated Kodi to 18.1
  • Changeable SSH passwords!
  • Default firewall (iptables) with simple configurations for Home/Public networks
  • Updates are moved to their own menu, other options are cleaned up a little
  • Safe Mode boot when Kodi experiences startup problems
  • updated Kernel to 4.19.23
  • fixed TBS 5520SE tuning
  • fixed Zotac remotes
  • fixed pvr.hts (Tvheadend) timeshift (partly)

Retroplayer:

Kodi v18  brings support for Retro games and the ability to play hundreds of Retro console games directly through Kodi. It provides a large number of emulators in the add-on repo, although it includes  two open-source game accessories (2048 etc.). Kodi developers are working on a game database (for Kodi 19), which will facilitate the future of the game ROM management and use process.

DVB Drivers:

Now offers a wider range of DVB drivers (depending on your platform) to choose from. “DVB drivers from the newest kernel” also include the majority of Hauppage drivers who have recently been upgraded to the kernel.

Rockchip:

Despite version number 8.95.1 for devices with Rockchip processor they remain in Alpha state with limited support. The Kodi version is updated, but there are no significant improvements to the Rockchip 4.4 kernel-based video / audio improvements, and is not  one scheduled in the near future. Rockchip support has been redirected to the Linux 4.20 kernel to use the modern core kernels required.
