The rumors may had lasted for a long time, but now it is official. Walt Disney Company has bought and now owns the majoriy of 21st Century Fox.
The deal was closed for a trivial 71.3 billion dollars deal. In order to better reflect on what this means specifically let’s take a look at the names of studios and channels (along with any copyrighted material), that the House of the Mouse acquired the rights.
These are Twentieth Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, Fox 2000 Pictures, Fox Family and Fox Animation. Fox Networks, Fox Networks, Fox Networks, Fox Networks, Fox Networks, National Geographic Partners, Fox Networks Group International and Star India. And as an ‘icing’ 30% of Fox shares in Hulu.
It is apparent that we are talking about a historic agreement in the history of the entertainment industy, given the sizes of the two companies. As far the general public is concerned, expectations will be to see changes such as if they’re will be watching Simpsons in Hulu or Disney Plus or if X-Men’s films will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as is the case with the comics.
However, what is to be sure about is that all of the above are going to take their time. The ones directly concerned are none others than the Fox employees who will be anxious to hear the personal message of whether they are unemployed or not. It is a well-established phenomenon that the merging of two companies leads to mass layoffs, but here we are talking about such gigantic figures that the redundancies are expected by the thousands!
Either way Disney seems to be steadily walking ala Godjilla steps, towards the world’s leading primacy in the show business.
